Every measurement result carries an uncertainty, and three things have to accompany it before it can be interpreted: the measurement uncertainty stated on the certificate, the conditions under which the measurement was made, and the method used.

Pass or fail against a tolerance is what a statement of conformity records. Where one is issued, a decision rule agreed before the work is performed underlies it. Nothing on this website states or implies a decision rule, an uncertainty figure, or a conformity outcome for any item.

The certificate or report issued by the laboratory that performed the work is where results are reported, in the form in which it is issued. Nothing said while arranging work — by email or verbally — and no page of this website is a certificate of calibration, a report of results, or an amendment to either. Validity of a certificate is as a complete document, and it should be read as one.

Work described here is performed under ISO/IEC 17025:2017. Where accreditation is referenced, it is the accreditation held by the laboratory performing the work, limited to the measurements listed in that laboratory's published scope. Work that falls outside a published scope is performed and reported as non-accredited work and identified as such on the certificate.
